Message From jl

Oh, Lord, this could be a l-o-n-g and painful Spring. The weather has been so warm here in Central Louisiana, ET (my pet cockatiel) is starting the molting season early. I'm wondering if the incorrect timing is making it worse for him. He really seems unusually uncomfortable.

He sometimes sits on the back of my chair while I work. So, there I am, typing along, when, all of a sudden he jumps forward and bites the hell out of my ear. I know he just got “stuck” by a little prickly coming through his skin to displace an old feather.

I'm constantly on red alert as I work. I have to be able to pay as much attention to his movements as to what I'm doing, so I can lurch forward in time to make him miss when he starts to move toward the ear.

And, we're just getting started. I'll be a blithering idiot by the time this over.

The obvious answer would be to keep him away from me. But, the poor guy feels so miserable, he wants to be on me every minute. If he isn't on the chair, he's crawled up my leg and is sitting in my lap like he did when he was a baby.

That's a bit safer for me. As long as I don't move. I guess he wants me to share his pain. I do.

You Convinced Me

You may have noticed the Top Sponsor today is The MASTER COURSE - AND it's at the deeply discounted price I reserve for occasional sales to my readers ONLY.

I recently said I had no plans to do that again until the first of next year. People get in the mood to make big changes around the New Year. However, I've been getting email asking for it.

It's common for this type of material to come into high demand when the economy takes a tumble. And, I know many of our readers do need this help right now.

If you can read - AND FOLLOW SIMPLE DIRECTIONS - you CAN eliminate financial problems once and for all.

So, I've decided to leave The MASTER COURSE available to you at this price until things get better, again. I've blocked the page from the search engines so ONLY iCop members and Trade Journal subscribers will have access to this deeply discounted price. (The Course sells for $297 on its own web site.)

I only do this when I think it's needed. So, I can't promise how long it will last. I'm going to let the economy dictate that.

"Comcast Special Announcement"

If I see one more “Comcast Special Announcement” I'm going to scream. This is a piece of email - unrequested, I might add - telling me someone has changed their email address to something@comcast.com.

These are being generated by subscribers to this newsletter. Please listen up - this will NOT get the job done. You have links and directions at the bottom of the announcement email to change your address.

That is the ONLY way your address will get changed! I don't SEND the newsletter directly to subscribers. A service does that, and you have to change your address with the service.

This isn't me trying to be difficult. It's simply what works. I don't know what the hell Comcast is thinking. They should know to tell their customers to use the links in newsletters.

But, instead they want to send that email to let everyone know how many customers they have. It's a form of advertising - spam advertising.

Clarification on Shopdropping

Last week, I wrote about a practice called, “shopdropping.” If you missed it, you can read it here:

i-cop.org/journal/02-25-08.htm

I received the following email regarding shopdropping:

------------
Hi JL!

I'd never heard of that term, or ever thought that the practice was a practice. I'll admit that I leave my business card on the table, in a restaurant I've eaten at, or on bulletin boards, but inside books, etc... wow. That takes nerve. Good article, as usual.

Have an awesome day!

Trina L.C. Sonnenberg
InternetMarketing-Mavens.com
------------

Many folks had never heard of shopdropping, so I was glad Trina wrote to show me there could be some confusion.

The activities she mentioned are NOT included in shopdropping. There's nothing wrong with leaving a business card on a table in a restaurant. And, bulletin boards are FOR posting all kinds of information. I'm sure there are other appropriate places to leave a business card.

But, shopdropping involves putting large numbers of business cards - or other material - where they don't belong. This is a place where integrity is important. It should tell you what is acceptable and what isn't.

I think the easy way to decide is to ask yourself whether you are encroaching on someone else's rights.

Speaking of integrity ...

Putting Value on Something Free

I saw a respected “expert” do this, again, the other day. In the pitch to get folks to subscribe to his free newsletter, he claims it has a value of $197.

It doesn't matter who it is. This is done so frequently, it could be just about anybody. It's also done with the “bonuses” given away to help sell a product.

Now, here's the deal. Most ezines and many bonuses are not only NOT worth the claimed amount, they ARE worth a big, fat ZERO in legal tender.

Publishers and product creators do NOT get to simply decide what they want their product to be worth without actually selling it. They also do NOT get to decide what they THINK they can sell it for.

They are REQUIRED by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to actually SELL it for the stated value amount - and they have to have sold it for that within the past six months!

If they haven't sold the product for that amount - within the past six months - the products are considered to HAVE no value. These people are involved in false advertising, and that's not only unethical - it's illegal!

It's going to happen one of these days. The FTC is going to do a sweep through internet marketing web sites and start fining people for this practice of slapping dishonest value on things. And, it ain't gonna be pretty, because the fines will be HUGE!

iCop members have free access to an ebook, by iCop's Legal Analyst, John Glube, entitled, “Rules? What Rules?” The rules haven't changed since it was first published. They rarely do change.

It's in the iCop Member Center and it's FREE. Please go get it - and READ IT!

This ebook explains, in easy to understand language, what you MUST and MUST NOT do in your online business to stay within the legal limits of the FTC.

And, if you live in a different country, but still sell to folks in the USA, it also applies to you. The FTC has reciprocal arrangements with other countries.

The Integrity Pledge

Last week I told you about a new book, by iCop member, Dr. David Gruder, entitled, The New IQ: How Integrity Intelligence Serves You, Your Relationships and Our World

thenewiq.com/book

I also told you David has a HUGE commitment to spark a MUCH NEEDED integrity revolution. I received the following message last week:

------------
Hi jl,

I believe we need so many more people to read the likes of David’s books.

I have indulged in these types of writings in the past and I really thought they helped me feel better.

I tried to remember and practice as many of the points, that I had learned, which I added to my well stocked mental library.

Initially it was fun, but I soon found it hard because the other guy didn’t play fair,

He hadn’t read the same book ...?

Regards,

Bruce Urlich

------------

To that end, David has created the “Integrity Pledge.” I've signed it. I hope you'll sign it, too. You can do that at the URL below.

While you're there, be sure to sign up for the free eCourse: “Integrity Intelligence.” You'll find it in the left column.

integritypledge.org

I also need to mention ... As you explore these ideas, you may run into some things of a political bent. Rest assured - I have NO horse in this race. I repeat - I am NOT trying to lead anyone toward anything political.

So, don't write and accuse me of it. That will only tick me off.

I'm only interested in the process of returning to a world where more integrity is used on a daily basis. The saddest trend I've seen in my lifetime is coming to a place where LACK of integrity is so common as to have become the norm. Pitiful.

David is still experimenting and testing some ideas with the goal of teaching folks HOW to use their integrity. So, try to approach anything you might find from a place of integrity within yourself.

Whether you agree with anything you find, or not, none of that has anything to do with the value you'll find in The New IQ. AND, as a pledge signer, you'll receive a discount on the book!

Leaving You With a Smile

And, the Moral of the Story is ...

The teacher gave her fifth grade class an assignment: Get their parents to tell them a story with a moral at the end of it.

The next day the kids came back and one by one began to tell their stories. There were all the regular type stuff, spilled milk and pennies saved. Then teacher realized that only Little Johnny was left.

"Little Johnny do you have a story to share?"

"Yes ma'am. My daddy told a story about my Aunt Karen. She was a pilot in Desert Storm, and her plane got hit. She had to bail out over enemy territory, and all she had was a flask of whiskey, a pistol and a survival knife."

"She drank the whiskey on the way down so the bottle wouldn't break and, then, her parachute landed right in the middle of twenty enemy troops.

She shot fifteen of them with the gun until she ran out of bullets, killed four more with the knife, 'til the blade broke. Then she killed the last one with her bare hands."

"Good Heavens," said the horrified teacher. "What kind of moral did your daddy tell you from this horrible story?"

"Stay the hell away from Aunt Karen when she's drinking."
