I also can't seem to find the notes I keep to help me decide
what to write each week. Sheeez! Maybe it's the stars!
Speaking of notes, I noticed something I found a bit weird, last
week. It seems that - even after working online for almost 10
years - when making lists for a huge project, I STILL have to
sit down with a pencil and a legal pad. Can't even get started
on the computer!
Old habits really DO die hard!
A while back, one of my favorite “commenters” sent me a long
drawn-out process he has used for years to keep down the spam in
his inbox. At the time, my thought was ... it might work, but
who has the time?!
Well, now I find a web site where the same process (or close
enough) has been streamlined for people. It's called
“SpamGourmet.”
If you're asked to give your email address a lot online, it's
worth taking a look. Free service - and it works.
I can't remember from whom, but I received an email using the
term, "Mafia Marketing." First thing I thought was ... well,
now, THERE'S some integrity! They've finally started calling it
what it is!
However, I realize it has nothing to do with integrity. They
simply thought that was cute. They just stumbled onto the truth
of it.
I, on the other hand, may decide to make something out of it.
iCop's new project will effectively move our members far away
from this type of marketing and into something much more
legitimate.
iCop has always been about business ethics, honesty and
integrity. Integrity is THE single most important aspect of
iCop members. Our new project both highlights and demands it.
So, things may get a bit rocky for a while. A housecleaning may
be in order. Certainly even higher standards than we've used in
the past will be required for membership.
We're still a ways out, but beginning this week, this is ALL
I'll be working on getting done. Not only will this be fabulous
for iCop members, It will also be fabulous for the general
internet population.
Later today, iCop members will receive the first in a series of
emails I'll be sending regarding this new project. Let's get
ready to rock 'n' roll, girls and boys!
Something's afoot in the UK that I don't fully understand, yet.
However, I'm going to give you some links to peruse.
If you live in the UK, you should know about this. If you live
anywhere else, you should also be aware.
Once it starts, it's bound to proliferate all over the world.
This is a matter of your web surfing information being reported
to advertisers by your ISP. Yep - you got that right - the ISPs
will be handing over the info of every site you visit. Not
doubt for a handsome fee.
I can get real bent out of shape regarding privacy. However, I
doubt anything will stop this. With privacy in the USA being
almost a thing of the past, now - and with the greed factor of
big business here - I have NO doubt we'll all be dealing with
this soon.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't already going on
here. We all know the ISPs have been given carte blanche to do
exactly as they damn well please with regard to email delivery.

A young monk arrives at the monastery. He is assigned to helping the other monks in copying the old canons and laws of the church by hand. He notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not from the original manuscript. So, the new monk goes to the head abbot to question this, pointing out that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would never be picked up! In fact, that error would be continued in all of the subsequent copies. The head monk says, "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son." He goes down into the dark caves underneath the monastery where the original manuscripts are held as archives in a locked vault that hasn't been opened for hundreds of years. Hours go by and nobody sees the old abbot ... So, the young monk gets worried and goes down to look for him. He sees him banging his head against the wall and wailing. "We missed the R! We missed the R! We missed the R!" His forehead is all bloody and bruised and he is crying uncontrollably. The young monk asks the old abbot, "What's wrong, father?"
With a choking voice, the old abbot replies, "The word was ...
