EXCELLENCE can be attained if you - CARE more than others think is wise - RISK more than others think is safe - DREAM more than others think is practical - and EXPECT more than others think is possible.

Message From jl

I've waited over a year since I came back to Louisiana for a particular townhouse to become available here on my little lake. So, wouldn't you know, it finally did - RIGHT in the middle of me trying to revamp iCop!

This is going to set us back a couple of weeks (at least). But, it looks like I may actually be able to get things launched in June. That's okay, though. It'll give us time to work any bugs out through the summer - before the busy season starts in the fall.

Some FREE Stuff

Here's a cool little resource. You can make your own favicons in a flash - right here on this page:

customdesigngraphics.com/fav.html

Thanks to Heather Colman! While you're over there, be sure to subscribe to “The Graphics Tip Sheet!”

More FREE Stuff

I also saw a couple of things in another of my favorite ezines - “Merle's Mission.” Since I've been so busy, I let Merle find me content. ;-)

Here's what she had that I liked:

“PhotoShop Online”

Now thanks to Photoshop you can manipulate your photos online. Change the hue, crop, colors, whatever you want. You must have a computer with Windows XP or Vista, or Mac OS.

Merle also came up with a bunch of free graphics you can pick up here:

Thanks, Merle! Be sure to stop by Merle's web site and subscribe to "Merle's Mission" to get these things directly:

Another Yahoo! Story

------------
Hi jl,

I mailed my EXISTING customer this week. We send no other email to anyone else. We only contact them 3-4 times a year with existing customers only specials.

Almost EVERY yahoo account blocked our mailing with the reason "due to customer complaint."

It seems to me this has also become a new way to order merchandise without giving legitimate contact information in an online business transaction.

Needless to say, no more yahoo email accounts will be accepted by us. I much rather lose a sale than having to deal with unethical customers, risking fraud to boot.

This spam thing is being taken too far, in my humble opinion. Yet the spam in my inboxes keeps on multiplying like rabbits while ethical businesses lose.

What's wrong with this picture?

I would like to know how many other online merchants (namely our members) this happens to and what they decided to do about it?

Thanks for listening : )

Have a great weekend,

monique jones

Speaking of Email ...

If you have set up a forwarding system from your web site email address to your private ISP email address, you may be losing important business email. I've seen this three times now in the past month ...

An iCop member uses an address such as me@mywebsite.com. Then they have that address forwarded to me@comcast.com - or adelphia.com - or rr.com (rr stands for roadrunner).

What's happening is that the ISPs are bouncing that email back to the original sender.

Comcast is doing it because (in this case) the web site is hosted by a company that Comcast has blacklisted for spam. It has nothing to do with the SENDER - just the middleman, the web site address.

It actually has nothing to do with the web site, either. It DOES have to do with someone on the same server as this particular web site email address sending spam!

I haven't been able to figure out why Adelphia and Roadrunner do it. Their bounce email doesn't bother to tell us why the email bounced. But, since TWO of these were being forwarded from the same web site address, I suspect it's also a blacklist situation.

This does NOT mean the person using the web site forward is the spammer. In all three of these cases, I know that isn't the case.

It means someone else, using the same IP number - or an IP number in the same RANGE - on the same server as the forwarded web site email - IS sending spam.

If you are the business person using this forwarding method, you would never know you aren't receiving your email. You could be losing business right and left.

Not only that - when they bounce the email, they show your private ISP email address on the bounce message. Oh goody! Now your private address is flying around the web!

No one is responsible, of course. The ISPs are allowed to do anything they want with your account - including bounce anyone's email for any reason they please.

What can you do? Not much. You can never be sure someone else on your server isn't sending spam and having it reflect back on you JUST because you use the same company for your connections.

Having your own IP number won't work in this case, because the ISP will (quite INappropriately) bounce a whole RANGE of IP numbers.

Your only absolutely safe bet is NOT to forward your web site email addresses to your ISP email address!

I really want to hear from you! Tell me what you think!

Leaving You With a Smile

Kentucky Commandments

Some people in Kentucky have trouble with all those "shalls" and "shall nots" in the Ten Commandments. Folks just aren't used to talking in those terms.

So, some folks in eastern Kentucky got together and translated the "King James" into "Pike County" language. No joke, read on:

The Hillbilly's Ten Commandments

(Posted on the wall at the City Hall in Pikeville, KY.)

(1) Just one God
(2) Honor yer Ma & Pa
(3) No tellin' tales or gossipin'
(4) Git yourself to Sunday meetin'
(5) Put nothin' before God
(6) No foolin' around with another fella's gal
(7) No killin'
(8) Watch yer mouth
(9) Don't take what ain't yers
(10) Don't be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff

Now that's kinda plain an' simple, don't ya think? Y'all have a nice day.
Smile
