Well, I hardly know where to start! I suppose with saying, “Thank you” to those of you who have written to see if I'm still alive. It always amazes me that a few folks actually pay attention and notice if I disappear.

It's a long story, part of which you should know about.

First, I think I told you that right in the middle of trying to revamp iCop, I got the chance to move to a different place here on my little lake. I'd been waiting for this particular place for over a year, so I couldn't say no. iCop was going to have to wait.

Then, the trouble started. The movers were morons who took twice as long as needed to move everything. As soon as I was in, the dishwasher leaked and had to be replaced.

Then, the hot water heater leaked and had to be replaced. The installers tore hell out of the closet it was in, and all that STILL needs to be fixed. Next, the kitchen light fixture went out and, of course, the carpet all had to be re-cleaned.

So, that's just the domestic stuff. The good news is, I have the MOST fabulous view from my living room and I love this place - in spite of all the aggravation. It'll all be finished eventually.

Rootkits

The next PITA is something all of you should know about. My computer picked up something called a “rootkit.” This was ugly - and cost $300 to fix!

A rootkit isn't exactly a virus and it may not be picked up by your anti-virus software. I was using Avast and it DID spot it - but couldn't get rid of it. Most anti-virus and anti-spyware scanners can't even detect a rootkit.

This baby is a nightmare. In the end, my computer had to be reformatted, and, of course, we all know what THAT means. Luckily, I was *mostly* backed-up.

Rootkits are not malware programs. Rather, rootkits are programs that hide the presence of malware programs. And, they hide themselves, so trying to get rid of them takes special knowledge - which I'm about to give you.

Had I not been ignorant about rootkits, what they do, how to detect and get rid of them and, now, how to keep them OFF my computer, the guy who worked on my computer wouldn't have been able to hold me up for 300 bucks!

He took full advantage of the situation, and I'd like to spare you that, if possible!

The URL below is the place to start. This is the best - and most understandable - information I found on rootkits.

Do read the entire page - take full advantage of the detectors - and pick up one of the security tools to prevent the rootkits. I'd also bookmark that page - just in case you fail to take preventative action and need the information when you get hit.

And, you WILL get hit. In 10 years of working online, I never had a virus, or any important spyware. Now, I know. It's ALWAYS just a matter of time.

And, had I KNOWN about rootkits, I wouldn't have gotten that, either, because I would have taken the steps to prevent it!

A Couple of Heads Up

Before I go any further, let me alert you to a couple of things:

First - For iCop Members, ONLY

I apologize if you've been spending energy waiting for this. It was only delayed due to my computer problems.

I WILL be doing the email address check NEXT week. Again - the “Subject” line will contain the words, “Please Respond.”

Any members I am not able to reach by email - and I do NOT mean by going to your web site - will be REMOVED from membership.

It is YOUR responsibility to see to it I have a working email address at all times.

Second - For ALL Journal Readers

We will be having a product sale next week-end. I haven't done this on some of our products for a long while.

Quite frankly, most of these products are going to be removed, soon. Once we get into our iCop revamp, I won't have time to mess with them.

So be on the alert for a “Sale” notice next Saturday!

Okay - Let's Talk About the Elephant in the Room

Again, I'll start with a couple of resources for you ...

Joan Bramsch writes “The Empowered Parent eJournal.” In the last issue I saw (there may have been one while I was off-line), Joan wrote:

------------
"I know gas and food prices are rising dramatically. I lived through this type of high inflation in the late 70's and early 80's. Because I know some things about saving money while raising a family I started a newsletter blog called DOLLAR $ense, especially for you.”
------------

Joan has some TERRIFIC ideas. This is a monthly publication and WELL worth your time. The blog - if you would like to check it out - is here:

The elephant I referred to is, of course, the economic issues in the world. It isn't just the USA; people are suffering all over the world.

It's now more important than ever to use the Hunger Site EVERY day. Even if you have no extra cash, yourself, you can feed folks simply by clicking a button online.

It's going to get worse before it gets better, so now is the time to set the habit. I subscribe to their reminder email so I see it and remember to go there every morning.

Keep On Keepin' ON!

This could be a critical time for online business. Many folks will feel like giving up. However, the same problems are there for those who work at 9 to 5 jobs. At least we don't have to buy the gas to drive 50 miles to work every day!

A tanking economy is not the time to give up! This is basically the same thing I say during the summer months, when things slow down. It's TRUE - you can turn a negative into a positive for yourself more easily than usual. Now is the time to become VERY productive, rather than slowing down.

The best answer is to simply ignore all the fear-mongering. Yes - gas and groceries and everything else are going up in price - and will probably continue to do so. Stores are going into bankruptcy - banks are in trouble - homes are being lost.

I'm not going to sit here and depress you by outlining all the problems we have in the world, right now, and how we got them. I'm sure you know. If you don't know, you soon will. (Although I WILL say at the bottom of it is pure unadulterated GREED.)

Yes - money will be tight, but it does NOT have to be tight for YOU. In fact, soon, you will see more and more folks trying their hand at making a living - or just extra money - by working online.

It's true they may not have much money to fund themselves, but hey - that doesn't mean they'll fail. And, they are new customers for established online businesses.

So, take heart. The WWW is STILL a great place to make a living. Reinvent yourself. It's a perfect time.

I'll save all the admonitions on paying attention and not getting sucked in by pond scum for another time. You know what to do. As long as you stay ethical and don't get greedy, you'll be okay. (The pond scum uses greed for bait.)

In fact, simply do what you can, then, stop worrying about it. If you worry about the economy and refuse to see anything other than the sorry-ass condition we're in, you'll create MORE of it.

The trick is to give your attention to what you want to increase. Pay all that attention by whining about how tough things are, and you'll simply create more problems.

Case in Point ...

Back in 2000, internet businesses were going belly-up all over the place. I made it a point to ignore all that.

I decided NOT to fold. It would have been easy to do. We were barely out of our infancy, at that time. AND, a promised backer tried a hostile take-over of the organization. But, for me, quitting wasn't an option.

In fact, it was during that time I decided to EXPAND iCop. I changed the name and got this show on the road. That's exactly what I'm doing this time, too. And, it will work.

Remember: we create MORE of what we fear! I can redirect the energy of those feelings into committing to success.

It isn't as if we've never seen recession or inflation before. We have. I realize we do have some additional challenges worldwide, this time. But, humanity will persevere. We always do!

All we have to do is ... "Keep On Keepin' On!"

One More Resource

You may or may not be inclined to do something like this. I saw it at Joan's blog that I mentioned earlier. I think it's a FABULOUS idea.

I'm sure it was created for different reasons, but there couldn't be any better way to make you feel rich. If you FEEL rich, you become rich.

We create through our feelings - NOT our words. So, how we feel right now is all-important to get us through this rough patch.

I'm not even going to tell you about it. I'll let you discover it at the web site below. It's fun, and it's a glorious way to take care of yourself!

Q: Where can men over the age of 60 find younger, sexy women who are interested in them?

A: It's true. Matthew 14:92: "And Mary rode Joseph's ass all the way to Egypt.'

Q: How can you increase the heart rate of your 60+ year old husband?
A: Tell him you're pregnant.

A: Go braless. It will usually pull them out.

A: Valets don't forget where they park your car.

Q: Is it common for 60+ year olds to have problems with short term memory storage?
