Before I get started on one of my least-favorite companies, today, I need to give a short heads-up to iCop members.

It's almost time for our online Business and Desktop Directories to be updated again. We're well into our best selling season now, so this is a good time to have your company at the top of your category!

The payment of $30 is for EACH category you request, and it includes BOTH directories. You will be invoiced through PayPal as soon as the new directory is online, and payment will be due on or before October 10, 2007.

If you wish a Top Sponsor position for October, November and December, please send me the following:

* Your name
* Your company name
* Your first choice category
* Your second category
* Your PayPal address

REMEMBER: you MUST be listed in the category you sponsor!

Requests must be received no later than 11:00 PM on Saturday, September 29th.

More on GoDaddy

I thought you might be interested in another way GoDaddy likes to jerk their customers around. I received the following email:

--------------
Hi jl,

I remember you talking about GoDaddy not long ago, and I wanted to share with you what they did to me this past week.

I've been transferring a lot of my domains away from them in the past few months because of another issue I had with them over the registerfly fiasco.

I just happened to notice that I have 4 domains registered there that I bought back in 2000. All my contact information included an old domain address that is no longer available. I decided to update the records to reflect my current information.

As part of the process, they forced me to check a box that says I agree not to transfer these domains for 60 days. If you don't agree, they won't let you update the records.

Can they legally do this?

Heather
--------------

My reply:

--------------
Hi Heather,

I imagine they've checked the legality of it although I don't understand it. It's my understanding that ICANN rules say all registrations have to be kept up-to-date or they can be canceled.

If that's the case then GoDaddy shouldn't be able to do it. We need a lawyer on this one.

:-) jl
--------------

Next Response:

--------------
Hi jl,

Well they can bully me if they want. I'll wait the 60 days and transfer them as fast as you can snap your fingers. They aren't going to gain a thing from this type of treatment ... at least not with me.

Heather
--------------

So, there ya go. Any lawyers out there know if GoDaddy can legally hold a domain name hostage over a registrant's change of information?

Redneck Horseshoes

So many of you showed your amusement at the picture of the “Redneck Barbeque Grill,” last week, I thought I'd continue this for a while. Now, I'm not saying the good people of Louisiana are rednecks.

I prefer Jeff Foxworthy's definition of redneck: “To do or say something gloriously unsophisticated.” And, I'm with Foxworthy - we've all done it - or are related to someone who has.

So here's today's ...

Today's Article

Last week, I wrote about ITV Ventures and what I thought - or gathered - from their web site after a review.

I received an email from an iCop member with a different perspective. In the interests of fairness, I thought I should publish it. So, that's today's article. The ball's in your court.

I really want to hear from you! Tell me what you think!

In Response to "Putting it into Perspective"
by Cheryl Dixon

I just had to respond to your take on ITV. Usually I agree with your opinions 100%, but this is one time I have to make exception to at the very least, parts of what you say.

The company has been in business (very successfully) for 7 years employing people to answer the phones and take the orders from infomercials. Yes, it was only late last year that he changed his strategy to apply network marketing into his business, and I am so glad he did.

Yes, if you decide to become an IBO (Independent Business Owner), you get a large order of products that are chosen for you. But, thereafter you choose whatever products you want each month, it is not randomly picked for you.

I was very happy with the first shipment I received when I joined as an IBO, I received the top selling products and in fact still re-order all of the products repeatedly. Because they work.

As for buying call credits for infomercial orders, that is the most ingenious of all for people like me who have never been able to successfully market anything. Now, I purchase call credits for the products that I choose, set my own timetable for when I get those calls, and viola, all of a sudden I can take orders and sell products.

Whether or not you recruit people for joining is up to you. Personally, my sponsors and I feel good about helping people get healthy, natural products that improve their quality of life. We put more time and energy into customer relations than we will ever put into recruiting.

In fact, we are building our new websites to be strictly for the products that are available, with nothing to do with recruiting whatsoever. I don't "push" or try to hard sell anything. I want people to be happy with their products so they will continue to buy them, not try to sell them what they don't want or need.

The point being, it is your business and how you work it is up to you. Will I recruit people? As I stated before, that is not something I have ever been able to do, but there is also another component to this business model where you can literally "buy your downline" which until now was unheard of.

So yes, I do have a recruiting website for those who are interested in joining this business model, and when the opportunity to "buy customers already on auto-ship" opens up, I do intend to do that. The cost of doing this is $25 per customer, sold in blocks of 10.

As for the call credit pricing, it does change according to how many customers are responding to the infomercials. In other words, it is dependent on the law of supply and demand just like any other business. I have seen the price of call credits rise, and also go down in price.

Once you sell someone a product or products from an infomercial, they become your customer for life. So, you are building your business with those call credits you purchase as well.

MLM became thought of as dirty business due to many unscrupulous people who were actually just in it for the money they could make recruiting people, not in selling products. Or, the product was just some BS to make it look legal.

I have never been "pushed" or told I must buy brochures, or anything else for that matter, other than my monthly commitment of $100. Yes, if you don't have $100 in sales each month, you are required to purchase the difference yourself. That is not an issue for me as I use many of the products because of the benefits I receive from them.

The prices of the products are moderate if you compare them to the health food stores, and of course, if people sign up for auto-ship they save anywhere from $10 per month and up on individual products.

I do and will continue to highly value your opinion, but I believe it depends on the principles and ethics of the people involved in any business as to whether it is a good business or a bad one.

All the best to you,
Cheryl Dixon

[NOTE from jl] All I can say to this is ... there's still a lesson here for all of us.

All my own conclusions were based on what I saw on the ITV web site. None of these details were explained. The obvious is not to jump to conclusions.

However, if you DON'T want people to jump to conclusions, give them enough information to make a more educated decision. This company should have had Cheryl write their sales letter!

Leaving You With a Smile

"The Swim"

There was once a man that was not very popular in school. In fact, he was voted "number 1 loser and least likely to succeed."

Well, many years past and it seems that this man turned out to be extremely successful...a multi-millionaire in fact. He decided one day to have a big party and invite all of the people from has past that said he was destined to be a failure in life.

As the party was progressing. the host stepped out onto the diving board over his huge in ground swimming pool and made a public challenge to all his guests.

"In this swimming pool I have three man eating great white sharks. If anyone here can swim one full length of the pool, without being eaten, I will give them their choice of one of three incredible prizes. The winner can choose to receive either:

1. My million dollar home
2. My beautiful daughter's hand in marriage
3. All my money"

Just about the time he finished saying..."all my money", there was a huge splash.

People were soon cheering on the challenger who had taken the plunge. He swam hard and fast and just barely got out of the pool when one of the sharks nearly got him.

Needless to say, the host was taken back a bit. He didn't think ANYONE could survive his challenge...but he had to honor it.

He said to the soaking wet man..."ok you did it...which prize do you want?"

The man said, "None of them."

The host looked very confused and puzzled? "NONE OF THEM?"

The man said, "None of them ... All I want is a name."

The host said "A name? ... What name?"

"The name of the jerk who PUSHED ME INTO THE SWIMMING POOL!"
